Bioluminescence Kayak Journey
BIOLUMINESCENCE KAYAK TOUR $126 per person
The Bioluminescence Tour gives us a surreal experience. Living organisms produce light, causing the water to glow and sparkle like a cosmic mirror.
Any motion in the ocean waters accents this offering, a dance of light as we paddle in darkness. In our experience a kayak tour offers the best way to experience this magic as we move through the night in silence, also motorboats can harm the plankton which are a keystone species for ocean health.
Our focus is on safety and fun as we witness the ocean in a unique way that few have had the opportunity to enjoy. The silence opens our senses as we glide through the water almost as if we are flying – a beautiful way to connect with the mysteries and wonders of nature. Watch the ocean floor come alive below and around you, see the glow on the fish and seals. As the sunlight fades silhouetting the BC Coast Mountain range, bats swirl above, heron and other birds head to their roosting spots.
Only a short distance from the Backeddy Resort we melt into the night behind the Sutton Islands, away from the lights on shore. We explore with our sensory awareness and encourage you to feel with an open heart.
Things to note:
See Metta eco experiences website for details, tour times will vary based on time of year. We provide updates on the exact times. Our tours provide a safe and fun adventure.

Hiking with Goats
A guided hike through beautiful lake and mountain scenery, hosted by Pickles and Peanut, French Alpine goat brothers! Their "parents" come too, to ensure you are guided on the less-busy but still human-accessible trails.
On the two hour adventure we will:
- Meet at Grafton Lake parking area next to Grafton Road.
- Start with 10 minutes of intros and "Goat 101" to learn how to safely interact with Peanut and Pickles.
- Walk around the lake.
- Stop at viewpoints along the way, where we'll offer to take photos of you with the goats.
- End back where we started.
Private hike options include:
- Customized trail route such as up to the lookout in our main photo, or to cool natural tree forts!
- Special arrangements for a longer, more challenging hike to the summit of the iconic Mount Gardner.
A few considerations:
Families as well as dogs on leashes are welcome, but please note that Peanut and Pickles are still growing and their headbutt play behaviour may intimidate children and dogs.
You are welcome to request dates, but these will be considered "private hikes".
This adventure is "rain or shine"! The boys look adorable in their rain coats, so (pending a major storm) we'll enjoy whatever mother nature brings our way.
The boys can't wait to show you their beautiful backyard!

Horseback Riding at Maple Heart Ranch
Our Trail Rides are in small private groups from 1 to 5 guests. We meet at the Maple Heart Ranch - Homestead. Depending on the riding experience of the guest, I pick the horse suitable for each guest. The guests will get, to brush and help saddle the horses and get them ready. I do help, where help is needed. This way the horse and the rider will get to know each other and can build a relationship.
To start we spend 15 to 20 Minutes in the riding arena, to build up the confidence between rider and horse and get a introduction into riding a horse. After that we will ride to the Trans Canada Trail. The trail leads into old grow forest and along the Shawnigan Creek, different terrains and elevation makes it an interesting ride for beginners and experienced riders. We will be back around 1 pm. Where the guest can help to untack the horses and lead them back to the pasture.
Whale Watching from Nanaimo - Open Boat
Onboard one of our open-air vessels "Cascadia" or "Keta", we'll introduce you to the Salish Sea ecosystem and wildlife as we cruise through the Gulf Islands archipelago in search of whales and other marine life. We'll share facts about the different types of whales that use the Salish Sea, including their natural history, and their roles in the marine food web.
Throughout your adventure, we'll be in touch with a network of boaters over VHF radio and will plan our route to maximize our wildlife viewing opportunities.
We'll spend a full hour viewing whales, and we'll provide real-time insights into their behaviours. Onboard catalogues are used to identify individual whales, and this data will be collected throughout the season and sent to the Centre for Whale Research, Keta Coastal Conservation, and the BC Cetacean Sightings Network.
We'll wrap up our whale watching experience with an educational talk on marine conservation which focuses on threats to BC orca, and conservation initiatives will be discussed.
We look forward to having you onboard!
