Multnomah Zen, a four waterfall scenic hiking experience
Multnomah Falls and other waterfalls and vistas of the Columbia Gorge are astonishing icons of geology, the sort that have inspired mythology and lore of warriors, gods and passions. We will drive out in our vans to meet the tallest waterfall in the state, and then drive to a few of the shorter but even more stunning ones, too; falls which could only be the daughters and sons of legend. In this half-day experience, we will explore wonders with some short hikes (totaling less than 2.5 miles/4 km) and visits to overlooks and vistas that will have you gasping in awe. While Multnomah Falls and its iconic Benson Bridge are together the most-visited tourist attraction in the Portland area, they are only a part of our experience. We will meet at our shop in inner SE Portland, where we'll ride in our comfortable Sprinter and Transit vans to the nearby gorge. Depending on weather conditions, we will visit a few small hidden waterfalls and spectacular plunge-style falls whose columnar basalt has us learning words for "amazing" in other languages. We'll also tell you stories, geology, botany and oft-repeated tales of pioneers and road-builders, but also the old stories we've learned, of gods and wild spirits and about the oldest North American civilization, forever altered by “manifest destiny." Please note we book directly as well as through AirBNB, and your group may be up to 10.

POP QUIZ: Are you here to absorb authentic Portland culture? BONUS CREDIT: Are you trying to live like a local while you are? Because Portland is a MILLENNIAL PLAYGROUND best understood when explored like someone from here. How do we do that? Here are the locals' favorite pastimes: picking up cannabis from the neighborhood dispensary, grabbing drinks at a cozy cafe, eating plant-based food done right, and sipping crafts at an eclectic bar! So for starters, we'll sniff around a CANNABIS DISPENSARY to kick things off on a high note. Second, we'll sip tea inside a LIVING ROOM CAFE that's been converted from a Pixar-esque residence. Third, we'll grab meals from a VEGAN EATERY featuring meat and cheese alternatives that are as tasty as they are innovative. And lastly, we'll drink beers at a SEVEN STORY BAR that used to be a hidden back room of a live theater. To explore the city like a true Portlander, I’ll be your guide to show you where you’d go and how you’d do it. Along the way, I'll enlighten you to the community's culture and provide custom recommendations on how to live like the locals! Fragrance Design Workshop
We’ll introduce you to the process and materials that comprise fragrance creation. We'll spend about half the workshop smelling our way through a selection of over 30 raw ingredients, while discussing fragrance and blending techniques. After this, you'll turn your fragrance into an oil-based roll-on personal fragrance. You’ll take home your very own scent creation compounded and mixed into a 10mL roll-on bottle of perfume. Forge a Knife
Forge a Knife! Guests will forge with Host Gordon to hand-hammer and grind out a lifetime artisan knife. We will forge in a high temperature propane forge, use epic European anvils, and use 1095 (high carbon steel) to shape memories and a functional piece of art. The whole process takes around 8 or 9 hours. We will heat, hammer, normalize, and quench our steel. We will feel the steel move under the hammer blows. We will see the steel take form. Gordon will guide you to keep your blade steel straight and flat! You may choose to accept his help or not - this is part of the fun. Grinding, creating a handle, and other finishing touches come after the hammer work. We offer two styles with 1095 high carbon steel: an every day carry and a utility kitchen knife. If you have your own steel, or want to upgrade steel to what I may have on hand, or create a customized design --- please inquire --- before booking for additional costs and additional time estimate to complete the piece! If additional time is necessary after the scheduled experience time, then shop rates will apply. Note: We also host an AirBnB "Tiny House Farm Stay". If you book a stay along with your "Forge a Knife" AirBnB Experience then we offer a 15% discount on your stay!
Portland's Underground Donut Tour
On this tour, you'll join me as we explore the city and food culture through the medium of donuts. You'll learn history of Portland, each donut location, how they fit into the larger food scene, as well as try some amazing donuts. We start near the PSU campus where we begin at Sesame Donuts and try some of their amazing sesame donuts as well as many others. Depending on the day, our route can vary a bit between different partners based on the size of the group, the day of the week, and the weather, but we guarantee you'll love all the donuts we select and each of the shops themselves. We'll finish the tour at Voodoo Doughnuts, where you can even skip the line (sometimes a 30-60 minute ordeal). We hope you can join us! Other things to note Currently, many of these shops do not have gluten free or vegan options, so options are very limited.

Walk around Portland to explore its soul
Where has Portland come from, where is it going? Why has it come into national attention? Get introduced to Portland's soul with a walk through the downtown's core, starting with parks and art museums and the decisions that led to what the city looks like today. From cast iron-fronted buildings to the grandly disastrous post-modern Portland Building, much of Portland's history can be told through the buildings and street layouts; most importantly, the prioritization of parks throughout the city center. How did the city's early urban planners decide on their layouts? How do modern designers look at the past and plan for the future? Who are the people these streets are named for? What's with all the roses? It's not a dry history: full of back-room deals, early deaths and greed; and then there were hippies! We won't stop at the history from the books and the museums, but we'll lead you into the present, looking at what brought the city to its modern conflicts, racial justice protests, the tension between Portlanders and their mayor (no matter who holds the office), and how the city has changed to fit the pandemic and the forces which will shape its immediate future. We'd be remiss without letting this lead into food! So we'll end the tour with a radiating recommendation matrix, starting in the food carts in the city's center and leading out to the restaurants on the east side

Gorge waterfall hike and bike adventure
Our experience provides the best of its category -- best bicycles, guides, vehicles! We transport our guests and bikes in comfortable vans, and our guides ride with very small groups. We'll visit waterfalls you will not see on other tours. You'll immerse yourself in the temperate rainforest! We tell the stories that need to re-awaken. Beyond the 180 years of pioneers and loggers, before the century-old highway, this was the land of people with a rich mythology. We remember the long history this place holds, and tell these stories as best we can. After we fit you for bikes at our shop in SE Portland, we'll drive out toward adventure. The bike ride and hike both take place in the Columbia River Gorge, the waterfall-laden western end of an 80-mile (130-km) canyon. At a breathtaking vista overlooking the Gorge, we'll take photos, and hear the story of who was here before us. Over the course of the tour, we'll ride 4-6 miles (7-10 km), gentle downhill and some uphill (depending on your group) on a historic highway frequented by cyclists, see four waterfalls including Multnomah Falls, hike about 1.0-2 miles (2-4km) -- all within a 30-40 min drive of the city. The tour is 4-5 hours; you'll remember it for years to come! Please note we book directly as well as through AirBNB, and your overall tour group may be up to 10.

Beginner's glass blowing lessons in North Portland
Ever been interested in trying your hand at blowing glass? Join me in my private borosilicate glass studio for one-on-one instruction on how to make your first piece of glass art! I’m a professional borosilicate glass blower with over 10 years of experience and am offering private classes in my home studio in North Portland. Students will be taught basic glass blowing safety, skills, and will have the opportunity to create 2-3 pieces of glass art in a two-hour beginner’s lesson. Depending on experience, participants will have the chance to create a variety of items including marbles (typical for beginners), small sculptures, or a small glass ornament. If you make a fun marble I'm happy to turn it into a wine bottle stopper for you! Students get to keep any glass they create, and gain knowledge and hands-on experience in a very unique field. *Glass made during lesson will require kilning for durability, which takes a minimum of 4 hours. Most students choose to pick up the glass they made the next day (or at their earliest convenience). Interested in a class for two people? I'm happy to accommodate an extra person but only have one torch set up at a time, so both individuals will take turns blowing glass. In order to make sure you both get adequate time on the torch, I recommend extending class time to about 3 hours. Feel free to message me with any questions.
