All major hiking trails are categorized according to difficulty level for safety purposes.
Any travelers that aren't experienced with hiking in the desert heat should seek out easier trails and more experienced hikers may select higher difficulty trails.
It is also very important to properly hydrate, dress appropriately, wear sun protection clothes, and to stay on trail at all times.

How to prepare for the AZ heat
The summer months (between May-October) can get extremely hot outside. Temperatures get as high as 120’s.
°To properly prepare for a hiking trip, always wear comfortable hiking shoes, dress light, wear sun block, bring a hat/visor.
°DRINK PLENTY OF WATER!
°Do not go off trails and stay with groups of people for safety.
°Phoenix rescues many out-of-state visitors that veer off track, every year.
°Hiking trails are rated according to difficulty, so it is safest to research the hiking trails to find the trails that might be safest for you to attend.

Phoenix offers free events on certain days of the week. Most popular are “First Fridays” that are available on the 1st Friday of each month. Panhandlers and homeless population
For guests not familiar with the homeless population, it can be a little shocking at the sight of so many homeless individuals. They most often stand at exit/entry ramps with signs asking for money. You may be approached in parking lots, gas stations, etc. It can be difficult and heartbreaking to see others in such poor living conditions, or poor ways of life. However, the City of Phx asks that visitors do NOT give money to the homeless. It can encourage crime, and problems in our areas. They do have resources available.

Be cautious of wildlife
We do live near the mountains, so there are plenty of beautiful wildlife roaming around. They are not visible very often but you might expect to see coyote, javelina, fox, bobcats, snakes, scorpions, and other wildlife.
