Gunnerside is a picturesque huddle of grey stone cottages with a beck gurgling through the village to join the River Swale. This welcoming village offers a pub and tea room. Enjoy walks in all directions from the doorstep, through some of Swaledale’s most spectacular scenery.

Christmas Cottage is a traditional and characterful stone cottage. The cosy lounge has comfortable seating and a wood burning stove set in a delightful stone fireplace.

The dining-kitchen is spacious and equipped with larder fridge, freezer, washing machine, cooker and dishwasher.

There are two charmingly presented bedrooms, a double and a twin and a modern shower room.

Front of property: bench for sitting out and watching the world go by; parking area in front of the cottage for one car; ring in wall by front door for tethering of dogs, securing of bicycles etc. The property is south-facing.

The village has a family and dog-friendly pub, the very popular Kings Head, where you can sample tasty pub grub at evenings and lunchtimes. There is also a tea room providing snacks and light meals (closed during low season). If you feel like a change then there are welcoming pubs in nearby Muker (3 miles) and Low Row (2 miles).
Swaledale is walking country par excellence, whether you are in the mood for a gentle riverside stroll or a ‘grand day out’ on the breezy fells. Or if you prefer to explore from the saddle - bike hire and pony-trekking are both on hand. The excellent Dales Bike Centre in Fremington is 5 minutes from the start of the 12 mile 'Swale Trail', a low level, family-friendly cycling route along the valley bottom from Reeth to Keld via Gunnerside. By car you can visit any number of picturesque villages, bustling market towns or scenic beauty-spots and take your pick from Yorkshire’s famous (or lesser known) visitor attractions ranging from museums, historic houses, churches and industrial archaeology sites to waterfalls, caverns and gardens.

My husband, Trevor and I welcome you to Gunnerside! We are lucky enough to live in one of Swaledale's many lovely villages. Swaledale is the northernmost (and we consider the most beautiful) of the Yorkshire Dales, a region showcasing English upland countryside at its finest.

We have owned Christmas Cottage since 2011 and ran it initially as a successful holiday cottage before making the lifestyle move from Gloucestershire to our special piece of our beloved Swaledale in 2015. We, together with Maya our 10 year old Springer Spaniel and Inca, our Cocker Spaniel puppy, have recently moved out of Christmas Cottage (tears were shed!) to a house just up the lane and are delighted to be able to share our sweet, cosy cottage with guests once more.

Together, Trevor and I own and run Wensleydale Garden Centre in Leyburn and so are able to offer our Christmas Cottage guests a 10% discount for the duration of their stay. Do pop in and see us during your visit!
