A beautifully decorated, two bedroom countryside residence with private parking. Full of rustic charm & little luxuries, the property is perfect for a cosy or romantic break. Located on the Suffolk/Norfolk border in East Anglia's pretty and peaceful Waveney Valley. Well situated for visiting places in the two counties, with a wide variety of nice, local restaurants and sights suitable for casual sightseeing or longer day trips.

HOUSE STYLE
The early, 19th-century farmhouse has a lovely 'good feeling' – possibly owing to its close proximity to ancient ley lines. The style of the B&B accommodation is a mix of rustic and elegant. Inside, fine French furniture and dainty curiosities are mixed with old architectural salvage and rough plaster. Outside, the house is nestled in an unmanicured area of trees, wild blackberry, overgrown nettles and unruly, climbing roses. Birds and other creatures are all around (because they know they are safe). The beautiful, cotton bed linen is unironed. The ethos here is that quality of life is more important than fighting with creases in heavy cotton, when beds will be slept in (and the savings on this service are passed on to guests to do something nice with).

The cottage focuses on balancing the most important elements of quality and style to offer guests a temporary home that is beautiful and comfortable, yet affordable in comparison to higher rate boutique hotels and lofty country houses.

ACCOMMODATION TYPE
This is a private, self-contained 2 bedroom cottage-apartment. It's locked off and totally separate from, *but still part of/linked to a main house. It is comparable to a large self-catering hotel suite (or a converted flat in a larger house) with its own driveway, entrance and amenities... It has ALL its own rooms: own entrance, own staircase, own bathroom, own kitchen, own amenities etc., which are not shared with the owner or any other guests.

*The host lives next door. For most stays you will be greeted by the host on/around arrival, but will otherwise have your privacy. Guest parking is private and more than large enough for two vehicles.

THINGS TO DO
The property is located on the Suffolk/Norfolk border, so there is a good variety of things to do in the two counties. Nature walks, beaches, ancient castle & monastery ruins, cute medieval churches and breweries are in abundance in this region and within an easy drive from the house. Framlingham Castle, Eye & Bungay Castle ruins, Southwold (& Adnams Brewery), Walberswick, Covehithe & Dunwich Beaches, The Norfolk Broads and too many nature reserves to name are all nearby.

A little further out, but still within a reasonable distance for day trips, you will find famous stately homes, larger castles, museums and other historic places of importance – Sutton Hoo, Norwich Cathedral, Colchester Castle and The Abbey of Bury St Edmunds are just a few.

For nights in and long days eating sweets on the couch: There is a large television with free Netflix and typical Freeview channels via Roku, as well as the usual main channels.

TOURISTS
The host can offer suggestions related to guests' interests and help with an itinerary if desired. National Trust and English Heritage are great places to start if you want to look on your own. (*Use Withersdale Street Village, Suffolk or Harleston, Norfolk as your starting point)

NORWICH, CAMBRIDGE & COLCHESTER GUESTS:
The B&B is relatively close to all of these major cities.

LONDONERS
For guests from London that are just looking for some peace and quiet: Direct trains leave frequently from London Liverpool Street Station and stop at Diss railway station, where you can get a taxi. The host can order a trustworthy taxi for you if required. (travel time: 1 hr 40 min train + 20 min taxi)

A tranquil and old fashioned, but not-too-sleepy village in East Anglia. A lovely place to just relax & recharge, cuddle, go for a walk, catch up on reading... and catch a few old world sights if you're up to it.

A 'good-energy' place to go for walks or lounge around on rainy days.

PUB
A pub with good food & service and a few small places of interest are within reasonable walking distance. Other nice restaurants are in the surrounding towns. Many historical sights are close enough to journey to by car.

PEOPLE
People are genuine and humble (and welcoming to visitors). Sir Alfred Munnings is our best known modern, local hero – not as grand as some famous sons of other villages perhaps, but we are still proud of him.

HISTORY
Remember Queen Boudica from history class? In ancient times this was the territory of the legendary Briton tribe, the Iceni... The Hoxne Hoard, the largest find of ancient Roman silver and gold ever discovered in Britain, was dug up 12 minutes away!

GOOD ENERGY
For those interested in ley lines: The property is situated on or very, very near Britain's most important ley line – the St Michael Alignment, which runs from Land's End on the west coast to Hopton-on-Sea, on the Norfolk coast. The village appears to also intersect with another less ley line. Historically, churches were built on ancient, sacred places predating current religions. These prehistoric structures themselves were commonly built on places which are believed to hold mystical energy from the Earth - the intersection of ley lines... Here there are 10 churches in a 10 mile radius!

I was born and schooled in America, but have lived most of my adult life in England. Originally in London, I have lived for several years in an old country house in a beautiful, tranquil area of the British countryside with my cheeky farm animals.

MORE?... I have a broad heritage –some of which is British– so live here. I studied design and sculpture in New York. Soon after graduating I moved to London and got into retail interiors very quickly, which I hoped would be a sensible backup to art. There were shops at grand addresses (Mayfair, Spitalfields, Camden, Selfridges) as well as products I designed in swanky stores. I got married. I got divorced. I had a million staff (OK, not a million, but quite a lot). Somewhere in between I got terribly ill, but thankfully well again. I made the rounds appearing in many of the glossy magazines and probably managed to look fairly glamorous (and far more attractive)... Nowadays I feel anything but glamorous and am happy if my wellington socks are clean! I found I was terrible at making money and the harshness of running a business made me very unhappy. By the tender age of 31, I was completely burnt out and moved out to Suffolk where I now live.

Currently, I am focused on writing and other creative pursuits. Renting my property helps pay the mortgage and supports my endeavours.
