Explore the Cape of Good Hope on foot
The Cape of Good Hope evokes immense drama as massive waves carve away at the base of 700 foot high cliffs. It’s a corner of the globe steeped in cultural and maritime history, but even more so it is famous for its raw natural beauty: both terrestrial as well as marine. Our journey will start with me meeting you bright & early at your city centre Airbnb after which we'll stop in at one of my favorite bakeries in Kalk Bay for a coffee & pastry before passing through Simon's Town to encounter our precious, endangered, African Penguins. By mid-morning we’ll arrive at the Cape of Good Hope section of the Table Mountain National Park where our trail shoes can be of use! We’ll hike a mix of rugged mountain trail and stretches of white sand beach. During our hike I will share my knowledge of our botanically rich and diverse Fynbos biome, looking out for wildlife, insects, birds and reptiles along the way too. We will do a 2.5-3 hour circular hike of an easy to moderate difficulty covering 6 km / 4 miles as well as an exploration of the Cape Point and Dias Beach area on a linear or out-and-back trail of an easy to moderate nature. We return to the city via Chapman's Peak Drive in the late afternoon. Join me for a memorable day exploring the Cape of Good Hope uniquely on foot. Note: Please get in touch if you are 4 or more people booking a private trip to confirm availability.
Experience Traditional Africa with Evi
We will meet at a sculpting workshop, where local craftsmen create beautiful stone sculptures. We will take a walk up through the Red Hill Informal settlement, through the various camps of which it comprises. We will meet the local tradesmen, one of our mechanics, a lady running a vegetable garden who produces free range eggs to sell. We will end at my house, where you will meet my family and children and have a traditional African meal cooked on an open fire. Vegetarian, vegan or meat depending on your preference. My community is friendly, safe, and survives because we look out for each other. I will explain how my community can function, what problems it faces, and I think you will find it eye-opening the reality of how a majority of the people in Cape Town and South Africa actually live. Other things to note Redhill Settlement is a safe and friendly community, where many of the residents don't even lock their front doors. This gives a unique environment in which guests can relax and immerse themselves in the culture without any worries.
