Estádio do Maracanã / Maracanã Stadium / Estadio Maracanã - Known the world over, the Maracanã Stadium will kick start the Rio 2016 Games by hosting the competition’s opening ceremony. The venue has been recently renovated to host 2014 World Cup matches. It will also serve as the venue for the decisive matches of the football tournament at the Games. In addition, at the end of competitions it will be the stage of the closing ceremony.

Sambódromo / Sambódromo / Sambódromo - Venue of the big samba schools parade at the carnival will open its doors to two sports: the Rio 2016 Games archery and marathon events, which will be held at the venue. Designed by Oscar Niemeyer, the Sambadrome has been through refurbishment, restoring it to its original project, with an extra 12,500 seats being added to it.
