This beautifully renovated farm house offers spectacular ocean views from a hillside abundant with organic orange, lemon and olive trees. Use of multiple terraces, a large garden, and ample parking are just some of the amenities.

The home is in a beautiful location with panoramic views of the Calabrian coast, Tyrrhenian Sea and, on a clear day, the volcano Stromboli. Enjoy the peace and quiet sitting on one of the terraces with a good book, away from the hustle and bustle of the beach and towns. Fall asleep at night listening to the sound of breaking waves far below. If you need some variety, there are many interesting medieval villages to explore in the area. A boat trip to the Aeolian Islands and Stromboli is also recommended. Or just spend a lazy day at one of the many beaches. The water is beautifully clear, and for those who love the water, there are excellent snorkeling and scuba-diving opportunities to observe marine life. The nearest major town is Amantea (about 10 minutes away by car), where a daily market offers a wonderful choice of fresh fish and farm produce. But what you will never forget is the openness and friendliness of the locals - whether you speak Italian or not!

If you enjoy cooking, both of our vacation homes have well-equipped kitchens that will allow you to try your hand at preparing some of the local Calabrian dishes. For particularly enthusiastic cooks / bakers, there is also a traditional stone wood-fired oven in the courtyard where you can bake your own bread and pizzas.

By the way, Calabria is an excellent winter retreat for those fleeing the cold weather. With over 300 sunny days per year, even in mid-winter there are lovely sunny days.

Your hosts, Pia and Tom have owned this property since 2011, and have made this part of Italy their home away from home. Originally from Germany and Canada respectively, they have worked and lived in Vancouver, Frankfurt, Paris, Amsterdam and Bonn. But they have fallen in love with the Calabrian people and the lifestyle, and have immersed themselves in the local community.

Despite being retired, they continue to be adventurous, and love to tour with their Piaggio scooter. They travelled by scooter from Belmonte to a wedding in Bosnia/Herzegovina and like to explore Calabria and Sicily by scooter instead of using a car.

When in Belmonte, Pia and Tom love to be outside tending the garden and pruning the many fruit, nut, berry and olive trees. They understand the importance of sustainability and make every effort to minimize their impact on nature.

Reading, cycling, hiking, music and lazy days on the beach fill the rest of the program. And, oh yes, baking bread and pizzas in their wood-fired oven is also a passion. They are always ready to teach guests how to use the oven which, given its immense size, is quite an operation!

While Pia and Tom understand and respect the fact that some guests want privacy, they are also very open to sharing a bottle of wine with guests while enjoying the view over the Tyrrhenian.
