We have a great location which is both remote and close to everything you would need, or want to see. Our internet speed is robust, with no data caps. You can Zoom for business, stream movies and listen to music with no interruptions. A reminder: We do not allow pets.
ABOUT US:
For those of you who speak Spanish, Rancho Moco was named after Melonie’s father, who had a unique sense of humor and insisted his grandchildren call him Moco. This home is an homage to him.
Our 5-acre property has vast, open views from the front and back door, of snow-capped mountains and dozens of mature Joshua Trees. Enjoy the family of desert quail that live in the olive trees at the entrance, the jack rabbits bounding through chaparral and cacti blooming in vibrant color.
Whether to celebrate an anniversary, seek a meditative getaway or establish a home base for some rigorous hiking, Rancho Moco is a peaceful desert enclave that restores your spirit.
Our newly remodeled home (in 2020) is decorated with original art and steampunk lamps and furniture we built ourselves. You can enjoy the 1932 Philco radio playing audio clips of “The Very First” – Moco’s book of anecdotes and origin stories narrated by the author himself, who was a world renowned voiceover artist and actor.
The goal was to make this a perfect couple's retreat. After some research, we opted for an indoor, private, spa-worthy whirlpool hot tub (for 2) with a view. Not having one outside saves us maintenance expenses, which we are happy not to pass on to you. Having it indoors also makes it available year round.
So, enjoy a bubble bath in our Jason Microsilk whirlpool tub while you identify the stars above. Take your morning coffee out on the back porch with sweeping views of Mount San Gorgonio. Cool off under the outdoor shower after a long day of hiking. Or relax on the backyard patio by our cheminee – the original 1957 cast iron stove that heated the ranch house when Rancho Moco was originally constructed – while counting shooting stars. Because if you’ve never experienced the clear desert skies at night, you are in for a life changing experience.
Our kitchen is stocked with all the tools you need to create your own gourmet meals – or go check out the best local restaurants, cafes and wine bars we recommend. Then curl up on our cozy couches to watch a movie or listen to music. HBO, Amazon Prime Video, Amazon Music etc. are provided free, or login to any of your favorite apps.
Dawn will bring unlimited desert adventure in Joshua Tree National Park (entrance is minutes away). Explore nearby museums, hiking trails and local restaurants (from vegan to BBQ), or treasure hunt at the multitude of vintage and artisan shops to be found within 20 minutes of our front door. Check out our guide for some of our favorite spots.

There are debates online about which vacation experience is better, a hotel or an AirBnB. Most of the negativity is driven by large hotel chains. Here are a few differences:
Re: 'Chores...' We ask only that you put items back where you found them (books, candles chairs, etc) leave your bed unmade, take out your trash, and put rinsed dishes in the dishwasher. Our crew does the rest. As far as the cleaning fee goes, we pay our crew a living wage, unlike hotel chains, and we pay them more than we charge you. And we have maintained a 5-star Cleanliness rating since we launched.
You can't compare a whole house to a hotel room where you would pay for internet, pay to watch a movie, pay to park your car, pay for ice, pay to do laundry, overpay for food, and let's not forget that $8 bottle of water and similarly over-priced snacks in the fridge of a generic looking room with no vibe. Nor will you get real privacy, a full kitchen, grill, hammock, quiet, fresh air, and a picture postcard backyard with starlit skies… I could go on. As a lifelong professional musician, I have stayed in some of the best hotels on the planet. At the end of the day, they are still hotels, we are not. We are also not developer/management types with a gazillion properties. This is our vacation home we are sharing. If you want to avoid issues, read reviews and look at ratings. They matter.

For instance; In the Winter/Spring months (October-April) the weather is usually quite nice during the day, but might be too chilly at night to stargaze from our hammock. My favorite time is during the Summer/Fall months (May-September) because the evenings are usually a perfect 70 degrees, with balmy breezes and clear starlit skies.
Desert evenings in the summer are pure magic. During those months just plan to hike the park early, like 6-8AM and be back by 11AM-Noon. Noon-3PM will be full sun, but by 3PM the front of the house is shaded and a great location for an afternoon pause, or just hang in our air conditioned home until sunset.
