Cottage 'La Vie in the mountains', like it's name, is about "The Life in the mountains!” Here, you can live in sunshine, swim with the clouds and drink that exhilarating mountain air! This hilltop cottage overlooks a tranquil meadow and is close to Birla Girls’ School in Majkhali. It's a beautiful and spacious cottage surrounded by picturesque alpine forests together with the Panchachuli Range to be seen at a distance on clear, cloudless days up in the Himalayas, lend a breathtaking view!

Cottage “La Vie” can be seen from the ‘Golu Mandir Parisar’ and one needs to take a five minute walk on the upaved road or, take a small car to reach the entrance of the Cottage, making it easily accessible. On clear, cloudless day in the Himalayan mountains, the majestic Nanda Devi, and Nanda Kot peaks of the Panchachuli Range can be seen at a distance; North-east from the Cottage. It's ideal sitting outside anywhere in the Cottage during the day with a glass of lemonade and watch the never ending play of colours in the sky. It's like water colours swimming by! The garden with its seasonal flowers and trees is a writers', birdwatchers' and artist's delight. The interiors of the Cottage are warm and relaxing. One can even see the bright and big stars on a clear night and relax on the balcony gazing at the ‘starry, starry night’.

The neighbourhood is verdant and has many picnic spots, the most popular being the Golf Course at Kalika (7 kms). You can pack your wicker basket and picnic at these gorgeous gardens. Moreover, just around the Cottage there are a number of walking trails, treks and hikes, for example, a trek to the ancient Chamu Devta Temple (60 minute trek) which is on the top of the mountain facing the Cottage on the South-West. A fascinating trek to the ancient Katarmal Sun Temple is also recommended. The Durga Temple trek near Golf Course also provides nice views of the region. The overall area of Majkhali is a must-visit destination in Uttarakhand (India). A small quaint Majkhali market has shops for all daily requirements.

I'm an Art Consultant for last many years, but most of all I feel blessed to be linked to the purest form of Art, that is, Children's Art! Having had the opportunity to teach in many progressive schools and to be a part of various Art Projects with children, made me meet many educationists and beautiful minds!

Apart from my very "artful & heartful" professional life, I'm also a mother of a beautiful daughter who lives in Paris, and therefore, the name of the Cottage- 'La Vie in the mountains' meaning "The Life in the mountains". I'm a wife to a lovely husband who is a wonderful man to say the least! Together, they have made it easy for me to pursue my interests which are actually many.

I like to paint, create, recycle, cook, listen to music and this Cottage has allowed me to be this 'solo artist' by allowing me to do what makes me happy. The garden absorbs me no end and keeps me active. And, since this place has love and inspiration, I don't think one can go wrong in making this Cottage an 'artwork in progress'.

The Hosts stay in New Delhi and visit their mountain home in Majkhali frequently. However, a friendly and soft spoken Caretaker stays permanently in the outhouse (on the premise) to make the stay comfortable for the guests. He cooks local cuisine, on request, with the material provided by the guests themselves. The Hosts, when visiting Majkhali, would be delighted to meet and socialise with the guests.
