The Shepherd's Rest is a Shepherds Hut and glamping experience. The hut is situated on a 300 acre bull beef farm and approx a 5 minute drive to central Oamaru. The 4 alpaca will entertain you with their quirky antics. Our 2 retired pet sheep also chill around the hut. The country location is the perfect place to relax, unwind, enjoy the scenery, birdsong and farm sounds. It’s also a great base to explore Oamaru and the Waitaki area.

The Shepherd's Rest is a cosy ‘mobile tiny house’ with a glamping twist.

Sleep well in the queen size bed with fairy lights above for a bit of magical effect.

The hut has a kitchenette with a mini fridge, rice cooker, electric jug, toaster, 2 ring hotplate as well as crockery and cutlery, pots/pans, tea/coffee. Opposite is a small dining table and 2 chairs. The electric heater to keep you warm in the winter months and the hut is insulated as well.

It has an ensuite bathroom with shower, vanity, bambooloo composting toilet and hairdryer.

We provide linen, towels and extra blankets.

Cape Cod chairs outside. Kick back and star gaze at night or relax with a glass of wine while taking in the view over neighbouring farmland and the Kakanui Ranges. A mini herb garden has bits and pieces to jazz up your cooking over the summer months.

Note that there is NO WIFI. The intention of the hut is to disconnect from modern technology and enjoy the countryside. There are games and magazines to keep you amused.

Oamaru is a lovely historical town and has great cafes and restaurants. Explore the harbour area and be amazed at the old architecture. Wander the Oamaru Public Gardens. Visit the Blue Penguins at night. Take a day trip to Moeraki Boulders or Elephant Rocks/Duntroon. If you like a longish walk you can meander down the road to Devils Bridge Wetlands.

Our family is a blend of Kiwi and Aussie. We've been hosting guests from around the world since late 2012.
Both my husband and I enjoy the rural lifestyle and hope our 3 school age children will benefit from more of a grass roots upbringing. We are loving our farm life with it's menagerie of crazy animals and enjoy sharing this experience with others.
We both backpacked overseas when younger and also spent a year travelling around Australia in a caravan. We're a fairly easy going family and are passionate about what we do. Interests include gardening, tramping, reading, working (that would be my husband!!), woodwork, cooking.
