Visit our historic 1890 train depot. It is an opportunity to enjoy a get away from city life. Our hope is that this is a place people can relax and enjoy natures beauty. The depot has 2 extraordinary rooms that are completely private but located on our farmstead separate from our main house. Here you can view occasional wildlife, our domestic animals and one of the best views North Dakota has to offer (in my opinion).
საცხოვრებელი სივრცე
The building is a single level historic train depot, complete with loading dock and ramp. The space you will be renting is two large rooms. The depot has some modern features (like electricity) but most of its charm is from the historic character. PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A “GLAMPING” STYLE STAY
Inside there is 1 large bedroom with the original luggage rack, floor to ceiling storage cabinets, wood floors, large original windows and a private entrance. In this room you will find the king memory foam bed, 2 chairs, a couch, and a large tv with a Roku should you choose to bring a WiFi hotspot. There are two doors to the enter the property from the loading dock (with ramp, no railing). Once inside the two rooms are separated by a huge original glass door. The middle of the depot is a common space with a queen and a double bed, it contains an antique wood burning stove (we do ask at this time that it is for looks/historical purposes), a refrigerator, an old round table with 4 chairs, a microwave, glass range top and oven, George Forman electric griddle, a hutch holding utensils, glass dishes and a desk at the ticket window overlooking the valley. The original wood floors have not been redone in this room so you can see the splatter marks from feather pens dripping ink from the ticket booth ink wells. Outside the depot you will find lots of trees, a small stream, space to park, a wooded area to hike, and a short walk down to a public wildlife area and jumping bridge, a fire area, lawn space, and even an outhouse. We again would like to highlight that this a “glamping” experience. It’s not completely roughing it but it’s a step back in time to a land without WiFi, cable, central air, and all those amenities we take for granted in our life. It helped us appreciate so much and we want to share that experience.
I have tried to include many photos but they do not do the view justice in my opinion.
There is potential for booking additional sleeping space in the school house (shared space listed separately on Air BnB) or the possibility for renting a camping or RV space (please discuss in advance). We do have an additional twin bed that can be added to the area for an additional fee if you need more sleeping space. The bathroom and sink (for washing dishes) are in the main house (shared space). There is 24/7 access to the bathroom. The bathroom is slightly outdated and we are slowly working to update it, but it gets the job done.
We will do our best to customize this experience to your needs. Kayaks may also be available to kayak the river along the bottom of our property (you will need to provide your own life jackets and must wear them).
A few disclaimers: Our home is constantly under construction/updates for the most part this will only effect the shared space. This is an old property in the middle of the country so please expect that this will be drastically different then a city stay (dark nights, animal noises, bugs, and dirt). Make sure you fill up with gas and bring any food or snacks you will need. It’s 10 miles to the closest spot and they close in the evenings.
The depot is not climate controlled (be prepared for hot and cold weather). We typically close it down for winter months. If you would like to rough it in the North Dakota cold pioneer style please send us a message.
For allergy purposes I would like to add there are pet animals on the property, including dogs, cats, donkeys, chickens and horses. All animals are fixed and current on vaccinations. We do animal rescue so the animals on the property change on a regular basis.
If you are booking with a pet there will be a $50 pet deposit, and $25 per trip fee collected once the reservation is made. Pets must be altered, animal friendly and current on vaccinations. Pets are to stay on leash, off furniture and out of beds. Your deposit will be returned as long as their is no damage or additional cleaning.
We have some rescued outdoor resident cats and they are the dog greeters so for that reason we do require your dog to be cat friendly.
Hunters: due to past experiences we require a deposit which varies by group size. We also require your game to be cleaned and waste is disposed off property. Please message for more info and questions.
