Leave your car and walk to town like a local!

Faeryvale Cottage is across the street from Berryvale organic market, a 5 minute stroll to Bistro 107 (fantastic casual fare and local craft brews on tab) and all the downtown shops.

Try out the Pipeline Craft Taps and Kitchen downtown. It is delicious and has a hip vibe which is a great addition to the downtown area! Try the Thai Cauliflower appetizer! Amazing!

Best pizza can be found at the Garden Tap located at Native Grounds nursery, starting the end of April.

Say Cheese Pizza, just around the corner from the cottage, has scooped ice cream-(something lacking in Mount Shasta), though you can get a cone at Rite Aid.
Next door is Papa's Donut Shop, a new local business-easy to walk to from the cottage! Go early because the donuts are GONE quickly!

In the summer time, best frosty cones in Mount Shasta are at the little store in the Lake Siskiyous campground! Great place to hang on a beach with kiddos, entrance fee is 1.00 per person for day use or 7.00 for the huge inflatable water adventure toys at the beach great for the for age 8 through teens. There is a great little grill/cafe with a surprising menu and beer on tap. If you hike the 7 mile trail loop around the lake, the campground is your halfway point. Stop for a beer or an ice cream to power the completion of the hike! Beautiful trail, mostly level and shaded. Blackberries to nibble in August!

Yaks Mount Shasta Koffee and Eatery downtown has a bustling vibe, good coffee and food items. Best coffee can be found and the LOGE on the south end of town near the Fitness Center.

Seven Suns Coffee and Cafe, south of the cottage, has good coffee and yummy breakfast and lunch items and a lovely shady patio for warm, sunny days. A bit of a longer walk but very doable!

Lily's restaurant is next door to Seven Suns. If you are in town on Wednesday, call for a reservation because it is SUSHI night! The fish is flown in from Hawaii and the sushi is great! The food is good the rest of the week, and the outdoor seating in summer is great as it is generally well shaded at dinner time. A little pricey, but heck, you are on vacation, right?

If you are here Thursday through Sunday and are a foodie, you MUST make a reservation at Cafe Maddalena in nearby Dunsmuir. Check out their seasonal menu online. The food is outstanding, and they can suggest the perfect wine pairings. A tiny little bistro that is a big surprise to find in Dunsmuir! Excellent service! Let me know if you want me to call the chef for a reservation for you! You WILL need one!

Check out the local thrift stores, and wander around our hardware stores; Ace and Solanos. BUT, the best is the Dunsmuir Hardware Store! Vintage building, and all kinds of memorabilia-browse everything from old photos, kitchen items, tools, garden supplies...you name it, a real blast to the past!

Rent outdoor gear at The Fifth Season or The Sportsman's Den, an easy walk from the cottage.

Poncho and Lefkowitz is a stationary food truck-like eatery a quick walk south from the cottage. Interesting menu items for a quick bite. They have tables outside.

Mount Shasta Yoga is next door to Berryvale Market. A great studio on the top floor of the Petals Flower Shop. Check out the classes online or pop in to see what is offered during your stay. They have extra mats and yoga essentials to use.

The wetland walkway in Sisson Meadow is accessed by heading to Chestnut St, one block east of ACE Hardware's back store, head up the street to the end and walk past a historic home/vacation rental. Great view of the Mountain! Quiet spot to enjoy the view, or bird watch. A little known spot!

We love to explore, travel, go camping, kayaking, hiking, attending outdoor concerts and spending time in the beautiful Ashland and Mount Shasta area. We enjoy going to the movies (pre-Covid!) and trying out new restaurants. We love to use Airbnb to spend time exploring charming little towns and getting to know more about our new area as transplanted Southern Californians.

Laurie is a college professor and Randy is a retired engineer.

Laurie enjoys gardening, baking, hiking, running, cross country skiing and snowshoeing, hanging out with family, and going to the local festivals.

Randy is busy with home renovation and maintenance of our listings, plus golfing with several clubs in our area and in Southern California whenever possible!

We love traveling and using Airbnb as guests so we can improve our own guest experience at our Faeryvale Cottage and Nomad's Nest while meeting interesting people.

We have been quite surprised by the number of International travelers who have stayed with us at our listings. We have hosted guests from The United Arab Emirates, France, Wales. England, Spain, Israel, China. Japan and Australia. This is an exciting way to learn more about the world and to share our beautiful area with others from around the world! We can't wait for International travel to return!

We love making our guests feel comfortable and at home. Whether you enjoy complete privacy or want to join us for happy hour, we will make your stay a memorable one! It is YOUR vacation!
